Posh talks for Toumani

The French-born midfielder Toumani Diagouraga is to agree terms with Peterborough United today, and will join Posh after undergoing a medical.

A highly consistent player for Hereford United, Diagouraga was only twelve months into a three-year contract at Edgar Street but the lure of Championship football has proved to be decisive.

The Peterborough director-of-football Barry Fry wanted to complete the deal yesterday, however, Diagouraga missed his flight out of France, and although his agent was waiting patiently at the airport the next flight was fully booked, so talks will reconvene today.

Fry revealed he had planned to swoop for the 22-year old last summer but was knocked back by the Bulls as they had just gained promotion to League One alongside free-spending Peterborough.

However, the ex Barnet and Birmingham manager told the BBC a deal has been done this time around.

'We've agreed an undisclosed fee with Hereford and we've been given permission to speak to him.

'Darren Ferguson spoke to him on the phone and I'll meet with his agent down at the training ground and hopefully we'll conclude a deal.

'The conversations I've had with the agent, and with the player leads me to believe we won't have any problems but until the paperwork's done there's always that doubt in the back of your mind that Juventus, Fray Bentos or Real Madrid might come in!'

'The manager identified the player as a potential target this time last year, but I just couldn't do a deal with Graham [Turner] at the time because they'd just got promotion along with us and it was a vital year for him.

'Now because they've gone back down, the player wants to leave although he's got two years left on his contract.

'We've agreed a transfer fee and we've just got to agree personal terms and he has got to pass a medical. But we don't anticipate any problems.'
